There's a strong chance that you've ben given great advice in the past, but overlooked it because you were too stubborn to listen. This isn't an insult or accusation, because trust me, I well and truly fit into this category. When you're young and naive you think you know everything there is to know. Some of us (again, me) take a while to outgrow this, but hopefully, at some point, you let go of your ego and listen to the advice being offered. Last week I interviewed Fraser Doherty of SuperJam as part of The Successful Mistake. I've spoken to many great minds of late, and the things on show are nothing short of brilliant. Fraser told me something that made my mouth gape, though. At … Read More »

I’m back everyone, and although I left part of my mind back in Austin (I do hope it returns at some point this week), I’m back and raring to go with lots of new ideas for this Blog and beyond. For those of you unaware, I have just been to 2012 SXSW in Austin: a Music, Interactive, and Film festival that literally takes over the city. I went for the Music, but did get to enjoy other elements, and as such, come back with ideas a plenty. So over the next week I will produce a short series of posts related to my experiences at 2012 SXSW. These ideas and thoughts are based on what I saw, who I met, and from the talks I was lucky to be part of. These will include: -       The Famous … Read More »

This isn’t a post blasting Hipsters as I have several friends in the states that would qualify. The thing is, though, they’re just trying oh so hard to be unique and individual and stand out, and quite frankly get things totally wrong. Just like you get certain white people trying to be black, dumb people trying to be smart, and guys trying to be women, the end result is usually comical.   Hipsters are exactly what they are… wannabes As such they’re stuck in the middle - not quite cool and a laughing stock to most. They see the individual cool of Europe and wish they were part of it. Away from the dull buzzed haircuts and grey sweatshirts of Middle America, and in the frenzy of … Read More »

This is the first in a series of blogs that I’m calling ‘The Turndog Tales’ a weekly update of interesting stories I’ve come across in the last seven days over Twitter, Blogs, and the various news sources I use on my iphone. This weeks eye catching stories include a renegade viral vigilante, festive themed flash mobbing, and hints on the future of publishing. Sit back and enjoy :)   Viral Vigilante Caught By Police This story came via The Drum and went on to tell me about how authorities have charged the hero of the previous week, a man who threw a Scottish hoodlum off a train. I remember thinking at the time, ‘what a legend, but I wonder if this will come back to bite … Read More »

This last March I went to SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin Texas, fulfilling a dream I’ve had for around 6 years. I first heard of the music festival in 2005, hearing that bands such as Bloc Party were going to grace it’s hallowed turf. Ever since this news my best friend and me longed to go, and 2011 was the year it was all going to happen. Without going into too much detail, it was amazing, but a very different experience to what I expected. On first hearing of SXSW I thought it to be just another, although cool as heck, music festival. After getting my tickets though and becoming immersed in the website, it showed itself to be a great deal more. It may be a music festival, but … Read More »

Well this is my first ever blog post and I thought long and hard about what it should be on. I mean how do you create your first one? The pressure is huge. It needs to stand out and set the standard, right? Nope, I figured just get on with things and talk about what you know, therefore deciding post number one should go in the Marketing category, and more specifically, about an article I read just yesterday about the rise of social sharing.   If you haven’t read the article then do so HERE, because it really is very informative and quite the eye opener. It basically tells you about how Unruly Media have created an info-graphic of social sharing in the last 5 years, and what an … Read More »
